Regional Ohio
When considering the regions of Ohio, it is important to remember that Ohio itself is part of surrounding regions:
The northern section of Ohio is part of the Great Lakes Region or Watershed.
Southern Ohio is part of the Ohio River Basin and ultimately the Mississippi River watershed.
Overlapping RegionsOhio has been divided into regions in a variety of ways. Commonly we see political boundaries, as counties, municipalities and townships as a way of dividing Ohio. In this context a region can be as small as two such jurisdictions joined together or a county as a region, or several counties joined. Alternatively, Ohio is divided into regions based on themes or programs. Several are outlined below:
